Homework and Independent Learning

Howden School aims to ensure all students have the experiences that prepare them for life beyond Howden School.

Self-study develops good learning and study habits, it also empowers students to be able to teach themselves. Students can develop a range of experience through self-study which better prepares them for college and the world of work.

They develop their:

  • Personal organisation
  • Time keeping
  • Recall and revision
  • Research
  • Problem-solving
  • Resilience
  • Independence
  • Reading

These skills are essential for college and later life.

Self-study is also part of the Howden Curriculum and evidence clearly shows students who complete regular self-study progress faster and achieve higher outcomes.

Each year group is set self-study on a rota. The rota for each half-term can be found on the student portal.
