Howden School is delighted to announce it has been awarded a 'Good' rating in its recent Ofsted inspection. Inspectors praised the respectful and aspirational culture at the school, highlighting an environment where students participate enthusiastically in their learning and where there are high expectations for the academic achievement of all.
Inspectors noted the transformational nature of the school’s journey over recent years. The school has woven its values of Aspiration, Courtesy and Excellence through the curriculum, to develop a curriculum that is well-sequenced and ambitious for all. Students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) achieve well. The school’s personal development offer is a strength and students’ access to a wide range of leadership roles helps build a sense of community. The school’s well-planned careers curriculum ensures students receive impartial advice that helps them to make informed decisions about their next steps.
Headteacher Mr Nixon said:
"We are very pleased that the report by Ofsted highlighted the positive shift in our school's culture which is described as respectful and aspirational. It comments on staff's high expectations for academic achievement and celebrates our students' active engagement in their learning and their excellent conduct. We are also pleased that the valuable support we receive from parents and carers, governors, and the Trust was rightly acknowledged. This report is an excellent starting point to continue our drive for improvement in all areas at Howden School."
