    History of the School

Howden School has been at the heart of its community for many decades. Established in 1963, the school was created to serve the growing population of Howden and the surrounding East Riding area, providing high-quality secondary education for local families.

Since its opening, the school has continued to evolve, adapting to the changing needs of education while remaining firmly rooted in its local community. Over time, Howden School has developed its curriculum, facilities and provision to ensure that students are well-prepared for the demands of modern life. An important milestone in its journey came in 2018, when the school became part of The Consortium Academy Trust, strengthening collaboration and broadening opportunities for both students and staff.

Throughout its history, Howden School has educated generations of young people, many of whom have gone on to successful careers across a wide range of fields. While the school is proud of the individual achievements of its former students, its greatest legacy lies in the collective impact it has had on the community—preparing young people not only for employment and further study, but for active, responsible citizenship.

Today, Howden School continues to build on these strong foundations. Guided by our values of aspiration, courtesy and excellence, we honour our past while looking firmly to the future – ensuring that every student benefits from an education that enables them to succeed and thrive in an ever-changing world.
