Parent Voice

If you would like to inform us of your views please feel free to take our survey that we send out after each parents/carers evening. Parent/Carer survey results are available to download below as well as a sample of some parent comments and our responses:

Comment: “Feedback on students homework would be nice i.e. projects done at home, not inc Doddle as can view quizzes etc.”

From September 2019 we are changing the way we organise whole sections of homework in a common booklet that can be shared and/or done in conjunction with parents/carers.

Comment: "Can you improve the fabric of the school buildings to make the environment more conducive to effective learning, especially the toilets?"

We have initiated a programme of improvements and refurbishments. We have recently put down new carpets in the corridors and some classrooms as well as refurbishing a number of classrooms and corridors. We continue to plan the next phases of refurbishment.

Comment: "Can we have clearer instructions about homework tasks so that we can better support our children at home?"

We provided an Introduction to Doddle event for Year 7 students as well as tutorials.

Comment: "Can we book our Parents’ Evening appointments online?"

On-line booking system introduced 2015-16.

Comment: “ What can I do if my sons/daughters appointments are full online?”

If you ring the main school office a receptionist  will look at the booking schedule and try and move appointments. If that does not work you can request a phone appointment with the teaching staff you require.

Comment: "Year 7 are struggling with the demands of homework at secondary school - can we have facilities to help them?"

We have introduced a lunchtime Homework Club in Room 13 open to all students. We also have PCs available in the library.

Comment: “The teachers work very hard. But stronger measures are needed for unruly behaviour”.

In September 2018 we introduced a new behaviour and rewards system. The feedback has been very positive. The overall feedback said that 96% of parents/carers who responded said that students were well behaved at Howden School. However, we are not complacent and are planning to improve the behaviour and reward system even further.
