Self Study at Howden School

Howden school aims to ensure all students have the experiences that prepare them for life beyond Howden School.

Self study develops good learning and study habits, it also empowers students to be able to teach themselves.

Students can develop a range of experience through self study which better prepares them for college and the world of work. They develop their:

  • Personal organisation
  • Time keeping
  • Recall and revision
  • Research
  • Problem solving
  • Resilience
  • Independence
  • Reading

These skills are essential for college and later life.

Self study is also part of the Howden Curriculum and evidence clearly shows students who complete regular self study progress faster and achieve higher outcomes.

Each year group is set self study on a rota. The rota for each half-term can be found below:
